Utah is my favorite state for canyon hikes...Zion is incredible and Escalante Staircase offers supernatural adventure...being 1000' feet down in these slot canyons is awe inspiring...it is another world all together..

lightening struck tree in utah
one of my favorite photos is this "grotto" shot of the virgin river running through "The Narrows" in Zion NAtional Park (Utah)...i believe it is the yin/yang of opposites---orange/green...soft/hard...wet/dry...or perhaps it has something to do with the fact that those footprints in the sand were put there by my two children as we hiked the narrows...since my first trek down the narrows, i have been back every two years and expect that to continue...the light play, the grand nature of being at the bottom of 1000' canyon walls (at some places only 50' across) always stirs my soul...this is supposed to be the top rated hike in the U.S. and i believe that is spot on....go to zion and hike the narrows...your life will be the better for it....memories are a great thing to make...
